BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF AN IN VITRO RECELLULARIZATION SEEDING HUMAN VASCULAR SMOOTH MUSCLE CELLS (HVSMCs) IN A DECELLULARIZED EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX (dECM) AS A BIOSCAFFOLD FOR AORTIC GRAFT

My research project is the development of a new decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) as a scaffold for aortic graft. The search for biomaterials that mimic native cell functions is the biggest challenge within tissue regeneration research.The current aortic grafts present a mechanical mismatch with the native tissue, which brings negative consequences on organ perfusion, and therefore complications in the rehabilitation and treatment of the patients. Thereby, biomimetic and mechanically compatible grafts for aortic repair are urgently needed to bring more conservative treatment possibilities that improve tissue repair and the longevity of the grafts, and as a result, improve the quality of the rehabilitation treatments performed on patients.

The development of this research can bring new perspectives in the field of tissue regeneration focused on aortic repair, enabling the advancement of treatments for patients, which motivates me to search for new approaches.
